About The Position

H2M architects + engineers, a multidiscipline architectural, engineering, environmental consulting firm in Melville, NY seeks Project Engineer to join our Civil Engineering Department. This role involves the design and coordination of work on multidiscipline projects, ranging from due diligence and site feasibility studies to site engineering, regulatory approvals, and full permitting. The Project Engineer will develop site layouts and designs, including site grading, storm drainage, roadway design, water and sewer infrastructure, and erosion and sediment control. Responsibilities also include preparing hydrology and hydraulic calculations, performing project administration (writing reports, gathering information, writing proposals and correspondence, tracking project costs, and completing progress reports), preparing engineer's opinions of probable costs and specifications for public bids, coordinating with other departments, and communicating directly with clients. The role is responsible for the on-time, on-budget, high-quality technical delivery of all project requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • Strong AutoCAD/Civil 3D skills, Autoturn, Excel, and Photoshop.
  • 5 - 10 years related experience.
  • Design experience with a specific focus on site development or municipal engineering projects.
  • Thorough understanding of the entitlement processes on Long Island.
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices of related technical areas.
  • Familiarity with the design of public infrastructure and public bidding process.
  • Self-motivated, capable of working independently or within project teams.
  • Team-spirited, focused and able to make independent decisions.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • EIT/PE desired.

Responsibilities

  • Design and coordination of work on multidiscipline projects ranging from due diligence/site feasibility studies, site engineering, through regulatory approvals and full permitting.
  • Develop site layout and design, including site grading and storm drainage, roadway design, water and sewer infrastructure, erosion and sediment control.
  • Prepare hydrology and hydraulic calculations and be knowledgeable of NYSDEC stormwater management and SWPPP requirements.
  • Perform project administration including writing reports, gathering information, writing proposals & correspondence, tracking project costs, and completing progress reports.
  • Prepare engineer's opinion of probable costs for designed projects and specifications for public bids.
  • Coordinate with other engineering and architectural departments within the firm.
  • Communicate directly with clients in support and coordination of all project activities.
  • Responsible for the on-time, on budget, high quality technical delivery of all project requirements.
