About The Position

Health Research, Inc. is seeking an Hourly Project Assistant II to assist the Central New York Regional Office (CNYRO) Community Epidemiology Team in communicable disease surveillance activities throughout the 14-county region. The incumbent will be assisting the regional community epidemiology team on communicable disease case and outbreak investigations, surveillance review of cases in the region for potential common exposures, and participate in local, regional and state-wide meetings. The incumbent will utilize applications in the New York State Department of Health’s Health Commerce System (HCS) to review communicable disease cases for completeness and may assist the 14 local health department communicable disease staff in conducting disease interviews. The incumbent will be assisting with creating and presenting a hands-on educational project for the regional Take Your Future to Work Day event. This position is part of the Pathways to Public Health Internship Program and the purpose is to help strengthen career pathways to public health by bringing together students of all disciplines and academic levels with public health professionals to create a space of exploration, learning, and development. This position will last approximately 10 weeks from 9/14/2026 to 11/27/2026.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in, or have completed, a degree, certificate, or training program in a related field.
  • Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
  • Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic academic or working knowledge and understanding of communicable disease.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience applying academic knowledge/technical skills to previous work or project based assignments.
  • Experience producing written and/or oral communications such as reports, presentations or projects.
  • Experience contributing to team based projects while managing established deadlines.
  • Experience developing presentational materials and conducting interactive presentations.
