About The Position

Perkins&Will’s Washington, DC Studio is seeking a Project Architect with experience delivering complex projects, strong technical judgment and a commitment to design excellence. This is an opportunity to take a leading role in translating design intent into built work, working closely with designers, consultants and clients from design development through construction. You’ll bring technical expertise, sound business acumen and a collaborative approach to leading project teams. We’re particularly interested in candidates with exterior and building envelope experience. Healthcare experience is a plus.   • Advanced Revit
  • Conceptual and computational modeling tools such as Rhino, including Grasshopper scripting
  • Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365
  • Adobe Creative Cloud, including presentation tools such as InDesign and Photoshop
  • Visualization tools such as Enscape, Lumion and V-Ray
  • Physical modeling tools such as 3D printing and laser cutting
  • Environmental analysis software such as Pollination, Ladybug and Climate Studio

Nice To Haves

  • Exterior and building envelope design, detailing and coordination.
  • Healthcare project experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Understand all aspects of the design process and project complexities to proactively contribute to the overall success of the team, while adhering to firm and project goals and standards of excellence in design, project management, execution and Living Design.
  • Understand and respond to technical implications, design decisions and project financial goals.
  • Coordinate project documentation development and the production of deliverable drawings and specifications.
  • Review deliverables at each phase for conformance with firm standards, contractual obligations and project design intent, with a focus on quality, accuracy, legibility, completeness and constructability.
  • Address Quality Control review comments at each phase.
  • Manage project Quality Assurance and adherence to Perkins&Will standards.
  • Lead project coordination among internal disciplines, including architecture, interior design and landscape architecture, and with external consultants.
  • Communicate with clients on project technical matters.
  • Administer project regulatory reviews, including building code, accessibility and zoning, and coordinate submissions to authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Lead construction contract administration, including submittal and RFI review and response, field observation and reporting, and project closeout.
  • Maintain awareness of evolving building technology and engineering systems relevant to project work.
  • Contribute to project marketing pursuits, proposal preparation and interviews.
  • Participate in design reviews, charrettes and pin-ups.
  • Demonstrate effective communication, decision-making and collaboration that inspire high team performance.
  • Mentor staff and support their professional development.
