The Architect IV exercises independent judgment in evaluation, selection, and use of standard techniques, solves problems when encountered, and receives guidance on complex projects. The Architect IV works on a variety of projects from conceptual design through construction administration. This role involves performing work that requires independent judgment in the evaluation, selection, and adaptation/modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. The architect will independently solve problems as encountered and receive technical guidance on unusual or complex issues, with supervisory approval on proposed project plans. The role includes working individually with a project manager in developing, planning, and creative-design concepts of a project, assisting with budget management, and preparing design presentation materials. The architect will also work directly with clients and/or user groups to develop schematic design concepts and programming studies, observe architectural features of structures in the field, and provide professional architectural consultation in the planning, design, and coordination of large, complex projects. Significant architectural design problems and methods will be decided independently. The role requires carrying out complex or novel assignments that necessitate the development of new or improved techniques and procedures for both projects and practice. The architect will initiate and create conceptual designs and plans of projects, taking responsibility for the preparation of schematic design drawings, design development, and construction documents. This includes reviewing and coordinating conceptual designs from all disciplines, writing specifications as assigned, reviewing shop drawings and submittals, and responding to RFIs. The architect will produce construction documents, conduct code research and analysis, and review with various agencies for approval. Collaboration with engineers, consultants, contractors, and/or clients is essential. Construction administration duties include revisions, addenda, facilitation of project communications, maintenance of project records, review and certification of amounts due to contractors, and preparation of change orders. Additional responsibilities include preparing project proposals, design team budget, schedule, and workforce projections, preparing and reviewing consultant proposals, supervising design team members as necessary, supporting business development activities, and performing other duties as directed.
