About The Position

Arcadis is seeking a mid to senior-level Archaeologist/Cultural Resources Specialist within our cultural resources practice in the Northeast U.S. You will serve as a Principal Investigator (PI) within the Northeast U.S. Cultural Resources team and provide oversight for junior staff and field crews, as well as assist with the management of client-specific programs and projects. You will also provide quality assurance planning and review for execution of cultural resources work in the Northeast U.S. Arcadis is specifically looking for an archaeologist/cultural resource specialist with environmental planning and permitting experience in the general Northeast U.S., however, experience in New York and New Jersey is required. This position requires knowledge and experience working in this part of the U.S. at a federal and state level.

Requirements

Meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards in archaeology
Master’s degree in archaeology or a related field
Minimum 7 years of experience in cultural resources management, with a combination of field- and office-based experience and roles
Working knowledge of Pre-Contact, Historic, and Industrial Archaeology.
Experience in urban sites and industrial sites is necessary
Demonstrated knowledge of cultural resources management and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA).
Proven experience supervising field crews
Experience completing all aspects of investigations from planning (e.g., budgets and proposals) to final report
Working knowledge of GPS systems
Ability to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours
Ability to carry supplies weighing up to 40 pounds

Nice To Haves

Environmental planning and permitting experience in the general Northeast U.S.
Experience in New York and New Jersey is required.

Responsibilities

Serve as a Principal Investigator (PI) within the Northeast U.S. Cultural Resources team.
Provide oversight for junior staff and field crews.

Apply technical knowledge to develop creative, effective, and economical solutions to address project issues.
Interact with project and program managers.
Work as part of an interdisciplinary environmental team.
Provide supervision, training, technical direction and mentoring to junior-level staff.
Serve as a PI in the Northeast U.S.
Work on multiple projects including all levels of investigation (Phases I-III, archaeological monitoring).
Conduct fieldwork.
Lead field assessments.
Manage archaeological field staff and archaeological field crews (including subcontractors).
Use excellent technical writing and communications skills to provide guidance and senior technical review on project documents prepared by junior staff.
Prepare technical analysis and documents.
