About The Position

In this new role, Project Accountant, in our Vancouver office, you will play a pivotal role in managing project financials and support accounts receivable for engineering projects. You will liaise between finance, engineering, and project administrators to ensure accurate billing, reporting, and contract compliance. Key duties include responding to project administrator questions regarding billings, maintaining project records, client invoicing, and receivable follow-up. The ideal candidate has to be detail-oriented, organized, and skilled in cross-team communication.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum 4 (Four) years of experience in project accounting, ideally within engineering, architectural, or professional services environments.
  • Experience with accounts receivable processes, including invoicing and collections.
  • Proficiency with accounting and project management software such as Deltek VantagePoint, Ajera, or similar systems.
  • Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) certification considered and asset.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills with excellent attention to detail and organizational ability.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to Project Administrators ensuring timely and accurate client billing according to contract terms (Time & Materials, Fixed Price, Cost Plus, etc.).
  • Respond to project administrator questions regarding billing process.
  • Monitor and report on project financial performance, including budgets, forecasts, and actuals.
  • Set up and maintain project cost accounting structures in ERP and accounting systems.
  • Prepare monthly project reports and participate in project review meetings with project managers and engineers.
  • Ensure timely and accurate client billing according to contract terms (Time & Materials, Fixed Price, Cost Plus, etc.).
  • Track project expenses, analyze variances, and recommend corrective actions as necessary.
  • Assist with contract setup and review to align financial tracking and invoicing processes.
  • Support external audits and internal financial reviews.
  • Maintain compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Coordinate with project managers and subcontractor administration to ensure proper cost allocations.
  • Assist in preparing project closeout documentation and reconciliations.
  • Perform Work In Progress (WIP) write-offs in two stages: initial write-off during project billing and a second write-off after billing completion, focusing on excess or aged balances.
