Construction Project Accountant
About The Position
Novak Construction Company is seeking a full-time Project Accountant to support the financial management of commercial construction projects from project startup through closeout. This role partners closely with Project Managers and Operations teams to monitor project costs, process billings and payments, maintain accurate financial records, and ensure timely reporting. The ideal candidate has at least two years of construction accounting experience, strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and a collaborative approach to supporting successful project outcomes. Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of accounting experience within the construction industry
- Understanding of job cost accounting, construction billing, and project financial management principles
- Experience working with ERP, accounting, or construction management software preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced construction environment
- Demonstrated commitment to accuracy, accountability, and customer service
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred
Responsibilities
- Manage project accounting activities from startup through closeout for assigned construction projects
- Process subcontractor invoices, owner billings, lien waivers, and supporting project documentation
- Monitor project costs, budgets, commitments, and forecasts to ensure financial accuracy
- Partner with Project Managers and Operations teams to support project financial performance and reporting
- Maintain accurate project accounting records and support month-end close activities
- Assist with audits, compliance requirements, and financial reporting requests
- Identify and resolve accounting discrepancies while providing excellent internal and external customer service
