About The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Construction Project Accountant to support our Accounting Manager and project teams. This role will work closely with project managers, operations, subcontractors, and vendors to help ensure accurate project accounting, timely billing, cost tracking, payroll support, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of construction accounting, enjoys working closely with project financials, and thrives in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of organization, accuracy, and attention to detail.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, project billing, and general accounting processes.
  • Experience with AIA billing and construction contracts.
  • Familiarity with lien waivers, retainage, change orders, and certified payroll.
  • Experience with construction accounting or ERP software such as Comsense, Viewpoint, Procore, or similar platforms.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with project managers, field personnel, vendors, subcontractors, and other team members.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to research discrepancies and follow issues through to resolution.
  • Ability to work independently while also being a dependable member of the accounting and project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Review and prepare payroll hours and expense information for processing by HR.
  • Prepare and submit certified payroll reports through various platforms.
  • Prepare and process monthly progress billings, including AIA billing and required supporting documentation.
  • Process vendor invoices and ensure accurate coding to projects, cost codes, and general ledger accounts.
  • Reconcile project accounts and research and resolve discrepancies.
  • Research and assist with change orders, including gathering supporting documentation and project information.
  • Review and maintain WIP (Work in Progress) information for accuracy and completeness.
  • Review daily shipments and related project documentation to ensure costs are properly captured.
  • Research missing materials and assist with resolving discrepancies between shipments, invoices, and project records.
  • Work closely with project managers and other team members to research and resolve project accounting questions.
  • Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
