About The Position

Under the general supervision of nursing leadership, the Staff Registered Nurse (Tertiary Care) delivers high‑quality, individualized patient care in alignment with the Lahey Clinic Professional Practice Model, the Massachusetts Nurse Practice Act, and ANA Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics. The RN‑patient and family relationship, continuity of care, clinical accountability, and safety are central to this role. This role involves providing safe, coordinated, and patient-centered care, leading and managing patient care plans, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and demonstrating sound clinical judgment and professional practice. Key responsibilities also include building professional relationships, fostering a supportive learning environment, upholding nursing quality, and incorporating organizational values into daily work.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a state approved and/or accredited School of Nursing
  • Current license to practice professional nursing from the Massachusetts Board of Registration
  • BLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Demonstrates the necessary clinical skills and technical knowledge to provide care for patients according to Nursing Policy and Procedures
  • Demonstrates the necessary clinical skills and knowledge to provide care for patients according to the unit-specific competencies
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Vaccinated against influenza (flu) as a condition of employment

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive, patient‑centered care considering physical, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, educational, safety, and age‑specific needs
  • Lead and manage the patient’s plan of care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Coordinate care across the continuum in collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team
  • Demonstrate sound clinical judgment, leadership, and professional practice
  • Delegate and supervise nursing care in accordance with MA Nurse Practice Act (244 CMR 3.0) and ANA principles, maintaining full accountability for outcomes
  • Support health promotion, patient/family education, counseling, and end‑of‑life care when appropriate
  • Practice safely and ethically within defined clinical and professional standards
  • Maintain current clinical competencies and technical skills relevant to specialty practice
  • Comply with all regulatory, accreditation, and organizational requirements
  • Exhibit Lahey Clinic’s mission and core values in daily practice
  • Deliver safe, coordinated care to assigned patients and families
  • Conduct thorough patient and family assessments appropriate to the practice setting
  • Develop and implement culturally competent plans of care with defined outcomes and preventive strategies

  • Evaluate patient responses and adjust care plans as needed
  • Build collaborative relationships with patients, families, nurses, physicians, and interdisciplinary colleagues
  • Partner with patients and families as active participants in care, guided by Swanson’s Theory of Caring
  • Educate patients and families about illness, treatment plans, and preventive care
