About The Position

The Community Investment Collaborative (CIC) is seeking a student undergraduate intern to fill the position of Programs Research Assistant. This is a hybrid position located at 300 Preston Ave #206, Charlottesville, VA 22902. This role is specifically for students receiving federal work-study funding. CIC is a nonprofit organization focused on micro-enterprise development, offering micro-financing and business training to small and micro-enterprises in Charlottesville and surrounding counties. Their mission is to strengthen the community and foster economic development by supporting under-resourced entrepreneurs through education, financing, mentoring, and networking. CIC provides loans and advisory support, including business training, one-on-one mentoring, and networking events, to entrepreneurs who face challenges accessing traditional funding and require an educational support system. By supporting small businesses, CIC contributes to job creation and the local economy. The intern will work within the Programs Department, contributing to building a research and recruitment pipeline for the Culpeper Orange Entrepreneur Workshop (COW) and supporting the Entrepreneurial Impact Manager for those communities. This internship offers hands-on experience in data collection and organization, research on business resources and networks, engagement with entrepreneurs and partners, assistance with program recruitment, and organization of business leads. The role provides an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a local community organization supporting small businesses.

Requirements

  • Federal work-study funding required.
  • Current UVA undergraduate student.
  • Resume and cover letter required.
  • Interest in small business and entrepreneurship.
  • Interest in helping individuals from low-income backgrounds.
  • Interest in learning more about community outreach.
  • Strong research and data collection skills.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Comfortable reaching out to entrepreneurs and partners via phone and email.
  • Strong technology skills (G Suite in particular).
  • Curiosity/interest in learning.
  • Interest in working with others and in teams.

Responsibilities

  • Build a research and recruitment pipeline behind the Culpeper Orange Entrepreneur Workshop (COW).
  • Support the Entrepreneurial Impact Manager who serves the Culpeper and Orange communities.
  • Conduct data collection and organization.
  • Research existing business resources, entrepreneur networks, institutions, and community demographics.
  • Connect with entrepreneurs and community partners.
  • Assist with program recruitment.
  • Organize business leads.
