About The Position

The Programs Manager Position is a mission delivery position that oversees all the programmatic efforts within an assigned geographic area. The position typically reports to an Executive Director or Area Director, is part of the Chapter Operations Team, and works closely with National Teams that focus on research, education, programs, and impact measurement. The Programs Manager is responsible for implementation of AFSP approved programs within assigned markets. The position is also responsible for recruiting and training volunteers to build AFSP’s capacity to deliver our mission. This is a 3-year grant-funded position focused on youth mental health across North Carolina.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree
Minimum 2 years experience in community outreach, program coordination, volunteer coordination, and non-profit work.
1-2 years experience recruiting and training volunteers.
Experience working directly with diverse populations and community partners.
Must possess technology literacy skills and ability to utilize and learn multiple platforms to work remotely and present virtually.
Ability to hold yourself accountable.
Ability to prioritize and coach volunteers to prioritize based on National Strategic goals.
Highly organized and detail oriented.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
Candidate must be diplomatic and have the ability to communicate tactfully.
Strong public speaking skills with ability to present in front of large and small groups virtually and in person.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Attend all mandatory meetings and trainings.
Ability to work a full-time schedule and have regular attendance at the workplace.
Ability to travel as needed to attend presentations, trainings, meetings or events.
Must have the ability to work on multiple projects at once and handle pressure to perform at high level.
Must be able to handle conflict and have strong problem-solving skills.
Must have the mental stamina to be in contact with people who are grieving or who are in crisis.

This role requires you to have a driver’s license and/or the ability to drive across your state(s) to which the role is a steward; must be able to rent vehicle on behalf of AFSP as needed.

Responsibilities

Increase program delivery based on agreed upon goals determined by supervisor.
Strengthen volunteer base and maximize program impact within chapter(s) service area.
Implement AFSP’s strategic direction by meeting goals outlined in National Strategic Plan.
Travel regularly within assigned service area and to annual Chapter Staff Meeting.
Evening and weekend hours required for programmatic trainings/presentations and meetings with volunteers.
Drive Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts to ensure our mission is delivered to diverse communities.
Measure impact by consistently tracking programs delivered and individuals reached.
Plan, manage, and implement AFSP’s prevention, education, loss and healing, and research connection programs as well as other programmatic activities in person and virtually.
Work with supervisor to ensure significant growth in number of individuals reached through AFSP’s approved programs.
Expand outreach efforts to effectively engage diverse communities disproportionately impacted by suicide.
Ensure all programmatic activity is tracked in Program Tracker and up to date.
Communicate impact of AFSP work to community leaders and local constituents, and organizations.
Respond to program inquiries and direct requests for presentations/trainings.
Actively look for opportunities to provide resources to survivors and individuals with lived experience.
Provide programmatic content for sponsorship and grant applications.
Ensure program information is available at all chapter activities.
Support chapter advocacy efforts.
Develop budgets for all programmatic activities.
Work with event related vendors, municipalities, and venues for program related presentations and trainings.
Responsible for recruiting, training, and managing volunteers to deliver programs throughout the chapter territory.
Under direction of supervisor, staff the chapter programs and education committee.
Keep abreast of all current AFSP National program initiatives and activities and communicate strategic direction to program volunteers.
Ensure volunteers track all programmatic activities in Program Tracker.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
