About The Position

This position will coordinate specific programming and services for International students and scholars to aid with retention, engagement and development. It will manage the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) Communications and Social Media Strategy. The role also serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for Loyola Marymount University's (LMU) F-1 & J-1 Programs for international students and scholars at both the LMU Westchester and Loyola Law School campuses. The coordinator will create and facilitate cultural and social programs, manage the OISS website, and supervise student staff in managing social media accounts. Compliance with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Department of State (DoS) regulations is crucial, requiring close collaboration with OISS staff and other campus units. The role involves responding to information requests, maintaining knowledge of federal, university, and departmental policies to support international students and scholars in maintaining legal immigration status, including employment options. Additionally, the position will recruit for and oversee the Global House Living Learning Community, manage On-Campus Employment Authorization Processes, and oversee the Glacier Tax Account Process for International Students & Scholars. Collaboration with the Assistant Dean on internationalization projects and implementation of the OISS Strategic Plan are also key responsibilities. Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Minimum 2 years in higher education or experience in progressively responsible positions.
  • Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral) evidenced by background in preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries incorporating complex, highly technical information.
  • Highly developed organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated computer competency and preferably knowledgeable of Microsoft office (Powerpoint and excel), webcasts, internet and web development systems.

Nice To Haves

  • A master’s degree in International Education, Intercultural Communication, or a related field is preferred.
  • Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.
  • cross-cultural experience in student affairs.
  • Previous experience with an international student services office in a higher education setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Create and facilitate Cultural and Social programs for the international community that support their legal, social, educational, and professional success.
  • Manage OISS website and communications.
  • Supervise student staff in managing all OISS Social Media accounts.
  • Serve as an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO), and as a Designated School Official (DSO) for both the LMU Westchester and Loyola Law School campuses.
  • Comply with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Department of State (DoS) regulations by working closely with OISS staff as well as other campus units.
  • Respond to requests for related information from members of the University community and representatives from governmental agencies.
  • Maintain a depth and breadth of knowledge to be able to interpret and comply with federal, university and departmental policies to support international students, scholars, dependents and alumni in maintaining their legal immigration status including employment options and limitations.
  • Recruit for and oversee the Global House Living Learning Community managed by OISS.
  • Manage On-Campus Employment Authorization Processes for international students.
  • Meet with students seeking on-campus employment and assist with completion of requirements for work authorization.
  • Manage Glacier Tax Account Process for International Students & Scholars.
  • Supervise and coordinate duties and assignments for OISS Student Programming Team.
  • Collaborate with Assistant Dean on various projects related to LMU’s Internationalization and support for international students and scholars.
  • Work with the OISS team to implement the OISS Strategic Plan that enhances the international community by supporting stronger student and scholar engagement, in line with the Division's and University's mission and strategic plan.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
