About The Position

Southwest Power Pool (SPP) is seeking a talented Programmer Developer to join our IT Markets team. This role is crucial for supporting and maintaining mission-critical applications essential for SPP’s System Operations team, which oversees the bulk electric grid and wholesale power markets. The IT Markets team is responsible for the performance, optimization, and reliability of these applications. The successful candidate will optimize application and process performance, collaborate with subject matter experts to develop technical solutions, and provide support for the real-time Market Operating System. This position involves participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation to ensure continuous operation of critical systems. It offers a unique opportunity to work on impactful applications, collaborate with a talented team, and support the reliable functioning of systems vital to energy operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or an Information Technology-related field or equivalent job-related experience
  • Lead Level: Eight (8) years of applicable Information Technology development and support experience; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Senior Level: Six (6) years of applicable Information Technology development and support experience; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Level II: Three (3) years of Information Technology Development/Support experience
  • Expert working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, UNIX or Linux operating systems, application development and support, and database management systems
  • Expert in one or more modern programming languages
  • Expert troubleshooting, problem solving, and analytical skills
  • Expert written and oral communication skills
  • Expert working knowledge of SDLC and project life cycle methods and practices
  • Excellent customer service and organizational skills
  • Understanding of and compliance with SPP Policies and Procedures

Nice To Haves

  • Five (5) or more years applicable utility industry experience
  • Comprehensive understanding of SPP’s core business model

Responsibilities

  • Supporting and maintaining mission-critical applications essential for SPP’s System Operations team.
  • Overseeing the bulk electric grid and wholesale power markets within SPP's extensive footprint.
  • Optimizing the performance and efficiency of various applications and processes.
  • Collaborating with subject matter experts from across the IT department to develop and implement technical solutions.
  • Providing support for the real-time Market Operating System.
  • Participating in a 24/7 on-call rotation for troubleshooting and resolving issues.
  • Leveraging programming and development skills to contribute to the success of the IT Markets team.
  • Driving innovative solutions, optimizing system performance, and contributing to the reliable operation of SPP’s essential systems.
