About The Position

USAble Life is seeking a Senior or Lead BI Developer to design, implement, and maintain data solutions across BI reporting, data integration, data extracts, governed datasets, and production data support. This role involves analyzing business requirements to develop and update dashboards, reports, ETL/ELT processes, and data marts. The developer will adhere to development, testing, change management, documentation, data governance, security, and operational support standards. Responsibilities include performing design, management, and administration of BI platforms, exploring emerging technologies, and providing technical leadership. The Lead BI Developer will also provide technical direction, support operational readiness, mentor junior team members, and act as a subject matter expert for complex data and reporting initiatives.

Requirements

  • Advanced skills writing SQL queries in Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, or other industry leading RDBMS.
  • Advanced skills in creating reports and dashboards using Microsoft Reporting Services, Microsoft Power BI, Business Objects, Cognos or other reporting tools.
  • Strong skills creating ETL/ELT processes using Microsoft Integration Services, or other data integration tools.
  • Strong skills supporting data extracts, data integrations, data marts, governed datasets and downstream reporting or analytics consumption.
  • Competent skills designing and maintaining OLAP cubes, semantic layers and data models using Microsoft Analysis Services or other tools.

  • Experience writing effective technical specifications or other documentation, including source-to-target mappings, business rules, lineage, runbooks and support procedures.
  • Working knowledge of data governance, metadata, stewardship concepts, reporting governance, access controls and secure handling of sensitive data.

  • 5+ years of related IT, BI, data engineering, data integration, reporting or analytics delivery experience (Sr role).
  • 7+ years of related IT, BI, data engineering, data integration, reporting or analytics delivery experience (Lead role).
  • Experience developing and supporting enterprise data solutions in a production environment.
  • Experience leading at least four large scale projects, initiatives or enhancements that impact systems, operational areas, data assets or business processes (Lead role only).
  • Experience providing technical leadership, mentoring, peer review or work direction to other developers or analysts (Lead role only).

  • Master's Degree in related field or professional certification in relevant area.
  • IT related experience in the Health or Ancillary Insurance industry or another regulated data environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develops BI reports, dashboards, data extracts, governed datasets and ETL/ELT processes based on requirements specified.
  • Supports data integration, data mart, reporting and analytics solutions from source systems through downstream consumption.
  • Serves as a technical senior technical contributor for large-scale projects, enhancements and corporate initiatives.
  • Understands complex business requirements and translates them into technical specifications, source-to-target mappings and solution designs.
  • Performs complex data analysis to support requirements gathering, metric definition, source validation, documentation and data quality validation.
  • Conducts unit testing of solutions developed and assists in validating outputs, reconciliation results and business acceptance criteria.
  • Conducts troubleshooting and support of existing reports, data extracts, ETL/ELT processes, scheduled jobs and production data solutions.
  • Performs root cause analysis for data, reporting and pipeline issues and documents resolution steps and preventive actions.
  • Creates and maintains documentation related to solutions being developed, including business rules, data lineage, technical specifications, runbooks and support procedures.
  • Translates business requirements into technical design documentation and supports testing, UAT, change management and release planning for solutions being deployed.
  • Supports data governance, metadata, lineage, data quality, access control and reporting governance expectations for supported data assets.
  • Optimizes existing solutions and identifies key areas where efficiency, reliability, automation, performance and supportability can be improved.
