About The Position

The Project Analyst contributes towards the improvement of programme coordination, partnerships and advocacy, the enhancement of national capacity development, and the sound management of financial resources. You will ensure and guide appropriate application of systems and procedures, and develop enhancements when necessary. The Project Analyst reports to the Head of Maternal Health Unit. UNFPA is the lead United Nations agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is intended, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. The UNFPA Strategic Plan for 2026-2029 articulates the organization’s response to a complex global environment, providing a roadmap for resilience and renewal. It is designed to accelerate the implementation of the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. This mandate is pursued through a focus on four interconnected outcomes: ending the unmet need for family planning; ending preventable maternal deaths; ending gender-based violence and harmful practices; and adapting to demographic change through evidence and rights-based policies. Working within a Country Office environment, you will contribute to the effective management of the UNFPA country programme activities by analyzing and assessing relevant political, social and economic trends, and by providing inputs to project formulation and evaluation, joint programming initiatives and national development frameworks.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in medicine, public health, sociology, international development, or other related field.
• Two years of professional experience in the field of development and population activities, preferably in programme/project management ;
• Demonstrated ability to work with governments, the academia and development community;
• Excellent report writing and compelling oral presentations;
• Familiarity with the UN system is desirable.
• Fluency in English.

Responsibilities

• Contributing to the formulation and design of the country programme and its component projects in line with government priorities and according to UNFPA programme policies and procedures, in collaboration with government counterparts, NGOs, and other partners;
• Providing technical support to the design and implementation of innovative strategies, approaches, and policies, with a particular focus to sexual and reproductive health in general and emergency obstetric care, maternal and perinatal death surveillance and response, cervical cancer prevention, SRH in emergencies, obstetric fistula management and midwifery services support in particular.
• Providing technical support to the strengthening of the health sector through participation in the development, review, implementation of national policies, strategies, clinical guidelines, operational plans, and training packages in integrated SRHR and GBV response services.
• Contributing to advocacy and resource mobilization efforts by exploring funding opportunities from public and private sectors and maintaining technical-level partnerships with national and development partners, donors and key stakeholders.
• Ensuring quality of programme and projects design by incorporating lessons learned, newly developed policies and best practices, and establishing appropriate execution and monitoring mechanisms and systems;
• Analyzing and interpreting the political, social and economic environment relevant to all facets of UNFPA’s component programme, and identifying opportunities for UNFPA assistance and intervention;
• Keeping abreast of new policy developments and strategies through the analysis of policy papers, strategy documents, national plans and development frameworks, and preparing briefs and inputs for policy dialogue, technical assistance coordination, and development frameworks;
• Expediting and coordinating project implementation through the establishment of collaborative relationships with executing agencies, experts, government counterparts and other UN agencies;
• Facilitating the timely and efficient delivery of project inputs and addressing training needs of project personnel;
• Supporting the creation, documentation and sharing of knowledge (lessons learned, best practices) on current and emerging population development trends through the analysis of programme, projects, strategies, and approaches for use in planning future strategies ;
• Preparing relevant documentation such as project summaries, conference papers, speeches, and donor profiles in order to assist the country office in its resource mobilization efforts.
