About The Position

Performs complex administrative and supervisory program work. Work involves establishing program goals and objectives, developing program guidelines, policies, and procedures; performing highly advanced work in the operation of the Metal Fabrication Factory; and supervising the work of others. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.
  • Four years full-time, wage-earning experience in a metal fabrication operation.
  • One year full-time, wage-earning experience in the supervision of employees and inmates.
  • Knowledge of quality control standards and inspections to maintain satisfactory levels of production.
  • Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
  • Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
  • Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Skill in problem-solving techniques.
  • Skill to prepare and maintain accurate records, files, and reports.
  • Skill to supervise and coordinate various manufacturing production lines simultaneously.
  • Skill to train and supervise employees and inmates.
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, twist, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry 45 lbs. and over, perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment.
  • Ability to work inside, around machines with moving parts and moving objects, around moving objects or vehicles, radiant and electrical energy, closely with others, alone, protracted or irregular hours, excessive heat, excessive or intermittent noise, constant noise, dust, fumes, smoke, gases, grease, oils, solvents, and travel by car, van, bus, and airplane.

Nice To Haves

  • Correctional custody or law enforcement experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of methods and procedures for repairing equipment or motor vehicles preferred.
  • Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations preferred.
  • Skill in the use of machinery and equipment in the assigned area preferred.
  • Skill in sheet metal fabrication preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plans schedules of operations; evaluates operations and recommends changes; conducts inspections to ensure quality and quantity control is maintained; ensures continued preventative maintenance of machinery and equipment; maintains maintenance reports and logs; and inspects and provides technical assistance in methods and equipment in metal fabrication.
  • Reviews raw material requirements; requisitions supplies, machinery, and equipment; and provides technical input concerning the methods and equipment to repair vehicles.
  • Oversees and coordinates technical training of inmates; and maintains evaluations and records of training activities and proficiencies for inmates.
  • Supervises the work of employees and inmates; and assigns work tasks in various phases of production.
  • Maintains security of tools, machinery, and equipment; responds to emergency situations; performs various correctional and custodial support functions; and assists in maintaining security of assigned inmates.
  • Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
