About The Position

The Fleet Manager role supports the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections by overseeing the operational, fiscal, and logistical management of the department’s vehicle fleet, ensuring safe, reliable, and cost‑effective transportation services. Operating within the Transportation Section of Support Services, the position manages daily fleet operations, leads supervisory responsibilities for staff and assigned offender workers, and coordinates with division Fleet Coordinators to meet agency-wide transportation needs in a structured and compliance‑driven environment.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five (5) years of experience related to the area of assignment OR An equivalent combination of training and experience

Thorough knowledge of modern principles and methods of vehicle/fleet management for a large fleet of vehicles.

Responsibilities

Oversees daily operations of the DAC fleet and Transportation Section, including supervision of staff and assigned offender workers.
Manages the full lifecycle of the department’s 6,000+ vehicle fleet to ensure safe, compliant, and cost‑effective performance.
Prepares operational and fiscal projections, analyses, and required reporting to support decision‑making and resource planning.
Provides monthly metrics on vehicle assignments, performance trends, maintenance costs, and mileage reporting compliance.
Administers the department’s GPS vehicle tracking system and ensures data integrity and operational effectiveness.
Oversees vehicle security equipment fabrication and installation, including materials management, cost tracking, and forecasting future needs.
