About The Position

This is a bilingual Department Promotional Examination for current eligible employees of the Department of Child Support Services. The position is offered at Level I or Level II. Candidates must meet the applicable education, training, and/or experience standard and submit an English/Spanish bilingual certificate issued by the Kern County Human Resources Division or its authorized agent, Bakersfield College, by the final filing deadline. Employees in positions designated as bilingual are paid according to the required proficiency level. Candidates are assessed through a written examination and an oral examination. The written examination evaluates knowledge of basic socioeconomic principles; individual and group behavior principles; community resources; public relations principles; interviewing techniques; applicable local, state, and federal guidelines, regulations, laws, and programs; and case management principles. The oral examination appraises training, education, experience, interest, and personal fitness for the position. Candidates must score at least 70% on each examination phase. The Human Resources Division may limit advancement to the oral examination to approximately the top 24 candidates based on written test results. If too few applicants pass the written examination to warrant an oral examination, the written examination will count for 100%. The examination will establish an eligible list for immediate appointments with Kern County Behavioral Health & Recovery Services. Other permanent and temporary appointments may be made as needed. Successful candidates generally remain on the eligible list for twelve months, unless otherwise specified by the Civil Service Commission. A background check may be conducted. After an employment offer, candidates may be required to complete post-offer medical and drug screening at County expense.
