About The Position

The Sport and Recreation Branch is looking for dynamic, energetic, and professional individuals to join our team as a Strength and Conditioning Instructors. In this role, you will share your passion for physical activity by instructing engaging classes like Active2gether, Obstacle Fit, and Kung Fu Pandas for preschoolers, children, and youth. By leading these progressive and challenging programs, you will inspire young participants to develop healthy lifestyle habits and build confidence. Requirements

  • Completion of Grade 12 or GED
  • Experience coaching or instructing small and large groups is required
  • Completion of a recognized fitness instructor certification (e.g., Alberta Fitness, Canfitpro, YMCA, or equivalent)
  • Possession of current Standard First Aid, CPR-C and AED certifications

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience teaching fitness-based programs to preschoolers, children, and youth
  • Strong knowledge of the High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development and Canadian Sport for Life Fundamentals
  • Strong Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build instant rapport with participants, families, and collaborators of all ages and backgrounds
  • Adaptability: Capacity to modify drills and activities on the fly to accommodate different learning paces and physical abilities
  • Class Management: Strong organizational skills to keep large groups focused, safe, and moving efficiently

Responsibilities

  • Instruct preschool, child, and youth physical activity classes, specializing in programs such as Active2gether, Obstacle Fit kids, or Kung Fu Pandas
  • Deliver and lead group instruction tailored to the specific class description, timeline, and goals
  • Lead progressive, challenging classes that adapt to meet the varying skill levels and abilities of participants
  • Create a high-energy, welcoming, and inclusive atmosphere that motivates participants to improve on their progress throughout the class
  • Promote the benefits of healthy living, active lifestyles, and physical development
  • Provide outstanding customer service to community partners, families, and facility patrons
  • Provide substitute coverage for other instructors and attend professional development workshops and training as needed
  • Keep program spaces tidy, organized, and orderly before, during, and after sessions
  • Accurately track program documentation, including attendance, participant evaluations, and incident reports
  • Attend mandatory training sessions
  • Other related duties as required
