About The Position

The primary functions of the Program Specialist for Transition Services position are to provide support and expertise for the Division of Employment and Independence for People with Disabilities (EIPD) and its customers through research, program development, technical assistance, consultation, and stakeholder engagement in the area of transition services. This position can be housed in any EIPD office in the state of NC. The position is responsible for policy input and/or development related to EIPD’s services to transition-aged youth with disabilities. The position will ensure program area accountability for EIPD in relation to applicable state and federal regulations and assure that EIPD is effectively addressing the needs of youth consumers according to the priorities and goals of the Division. The goal of the position is to provide leadership to EIPD regional, supervisory, and direct service staff that oversee, provide, or arrange for pre-employment transition services, transition services, and/or employment services to in-school and out-of-school youth with disabilities. This position is responsible for formal and informal structures for interagency collaboration with the NC Department of Public Instruction (NC DPI), local education agencies, and other state, federal, and local agencies that provide services to youth with disabilities for the purposes of improving postsecondary outcomes for these youth. The Program Specialist for Transition Services is vital for developing and promoting the continuum of services offered by the Division to transition-aged youth with disabilities.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a discipline relative to the program from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of related experience; or Bachelor’s degree in a discipline relative to the program area from an appropriately accredited institution and six years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and familiarity with the public vocational rehabilitation program, transition services, pre-employment transition services, and special education/Section 504 services and related legislation.
  • Experience with interagency collaboration and coordination of services/resources for individuals with disabilities.
  • Experience in providing consultation, training, and technical assistance on rehabilitation services to individuals with disabilities.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and report on transition data using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other databases to improve program outcomes.
  • Experience with creating reports, mass email communications, and presentations to employee, customer, or stakeholder groups.

  • Develop and promote the continuum of services offered by the Division to transition-aged youth with disabilities.
