About The Position

This position supports high school students in meeting on-time graduation requirements. The role involves encouraging disadvantaged students to meet state standards and make academic gains, providing direct service to students and families experiencing poverty, and collaborating with educators and community organizations to offer enriching opportunities. The specialist will manage case management in a team atmosphere, work with diverse student populations, and maintain reporting and documentation requirements. Home visitations and program development integrating academics and real-life experiences are also key aspects of the role. The position requires strong communication skills, proficiency in technology for data tracking, and self-motivation with good organizational skills. The specialist will act as a liaison between students, school staff, and the community, and will be responsible for locating students, providing academic options, and maintaining student records confidentially.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work or a related field, or A minimum of two (2) years of college level studies plus two (2) years of directly related experience working with low-income youth in an educational environment may be substituted for education requirement experience
  • Ability to encourage disadvantaged high school students to meet state standards and make academic gains
  • Proven ability to provide direct service with students and families living in poverty
  • Ability to collaborate with educators and supportive community members/organizations to provide enriching opportunities for students of poverty
  • Ability to sustain pose and confidence in managing emotional and difficult situations
  • Ability to successfully provide case management in a collaborative team atmosphere
  • Ability to work with students with varying educational, social and economic backgrounds
  • Ability to manage reporting and documenting requirements
  • Ability to conduct home visitations with a wide variety of cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to develop successful student programs integrating academics and real-life experiences
  • Ability to work with collaboratively with counselors and monitor student academic history
  • Ability to assist students in meeting goals on the Individual Student Learning Plan
  • Knowledge of local resources for low-income families
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Office/Suite (including Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Experience using Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Forms) preferred
  • Willingness to learn new technology
  • Adept at utilizing technology to create reports to maintain, track and analyze student data from the Synergy Student Information System is preferred
  • Self motivated, with good organizational skills
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
  • Regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements
  • Ability to lift and move moderately sized objects up to 50 pounds
  • Treat co-workers, supervisors, students, parents and others with dignity and respect at all times
  • Serve as a positive role model for students
  • Work in a flexible and cooperative manner

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support for high school students to meet on-time graduation requirements

  • Create weekly lists of high school students identified as dropout and relay relevant information to the high school building site contact person
  • Contact students identified as dropout using a variety of methods
  • Identify the student’s barriers to success and provide educational options to student and family
  • Evaluate student transcripts and records for best placement recommendation
  • Assist students and families with the enrollment process of the selected academic options
  • Provide a monthly report for building administrators for the purpose of on-time graduation
  • Serve as liaison between students, school staff, and the community
  • Create and implement strategic ways of locating students and providing them with academic options
  • Maintain updated student records and files. Ensure confidentiality of all records and files
  • Keep daily log of student contact
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
