About The Position

The Leidos Defense has a current opening for Site Lead at its light industrial manufacturing site in Chesapeake, VA supporting the US NAVY’s environmental shipboard equipment. This site fabricates electro-mechanical equipment per US NAVY build-to-print drawing packages and supports the customers with spare parts and troubleshooting. The role is full cradle to grave involvement from RFQ (Request for Quote) – quote - award – material/manpower planning – fabrication/delivery schedule – financial reporting- employee oversight to program management oversight reviews/audits in an ISO-9001:2015 environment. The candidate will support the current remote Program Manager with the goal to transition large program aspects as candidate grows in this position. Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree with eight (8) years of professional experience or equivalent combined education/experience.
  • A person with US NAVY background in logistics, production, and manufacturing is highly desirable.
  • Capable of leading a multi-disciplinary team to pull together all aspects of manufacturing: Material management, technician staff, external suppliers and subcontractors for fabrication of build-to-print equipment in ISO-9001 environment.
  • Reading and understanding drawings including dimensioning and tolerancing, specifications, materials, and processes (part of material receipt inspection).
  • Willingness to learn unfamiliar equipment and processes and inject past experience lessons learned into solutions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Project and Word.
  • Exposure to program management, financial reporting and team leadership.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Work experience in a light manufacturing environment.
  • Electrical panel fabrication experience a plus.
  • Exposure to US NAVY shipboard systems
  • Experience working in an ISO 9001 quality environment.
  • Understanding of factory acceptance test procedures with some troubleshooting and testing of electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Experience working with US Navy subject matter experts to assist in fleet equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Active or current U.S. DoD Secret clearance is a plus but not a requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Candidate will be the onsite lead for light manufacturing team engaged in all aspects of material management (incoming receipt, inspection, kitting), technician direction, fabrication schedules, quality activities and supporting program manager.
  • Maintaining electronic/paper files to support ISO 9001 environment – including: Shop Orders/Route Cards; Outgoing Shipments, Material Receipt/Inspection records, Non-Conformances, Tool Calibration, Factory Acceptance Testing and DCMA Source inspections.
  • Responsible for site shelving/inventory configuration and implementation of an inventory management system to ensure space is clean, well-organized and material inventory is up to date.
  • Lead material lifecycle tasks including material requisitioning, material release upkeep, receiving, tracking, releasing, kitting, and shipping.
  • Interaction with multi-disciplines including technician staff, program manager, SME consultant, material planning, procurement, finance, suppliers, quality, subcontractors, to support all aspects of obtaining new work and to meet customer contract delivery dates.
  • Provide daily manufacturing direction/guidance to shop technicians resolving fabrication questions on drawing interpretation, dimension and tolerance issues, inspections) and be point of contact for SME resolution information.
  • Develop shipment documents and detailed packing lists for outgoing material and participate in ensuring contents of package are packaged correctly for shipment (bubble wrap, size box/crate, etc.)
  • Candidate must be a motivated self-starter, able to multi-task, work within deadlines and provide direction/leadership to the technician staff.
  • Assist with ensuring integrity of ISO 9001 objective documents, team training, receipt inspection, shipment documents, certificate of conformances, and review/resolution of material non-conformances.
