About The Position

Founded in 2000, the Arcus Foundation is a grantmaking institution dedicated to fostering harmony between people and the natural world. The foundation's Social Justice Program focuses on ensuring equality for LGBTQ people, while the Great Apes & Gibbons Program leads conservation efforts. Arcus operates globally with offices in New York City and Cambridge, UK, and values honesty, integrity, humility, collaboration, and strategic grantmaking focused on advancing equity. The Social Justice Program aims to create a world where all LGBTQ people live with dignity, safety, and opportunity. This is a temporary, approximately six-month position (June through December) for a Program Officer within the U.S. Social Justice Program. The role involves managing a grant portfolio and grantee relationships under the direction of the U.S. Program Director, working collaboratively with a seven-person Social Justice team and other departments. The geographic focus is primarily the Southern United States.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in grantmaking.
  • Experience using Fluxx as a grants management database.
  • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • A high degree of professionalism.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and operate with maximum discretion.
  • Effective stewardship of foundation staff and financial resources.
  • Ability to comply with foundation policy and procedures.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity and respect for cultural values, practices, beliefs, and social experiences of diverse communities; effectively engages in a variety of cultural settings.
  • Ability to be effective in a global, multi-cultural, multi-location organization.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the full grant cycle and grantee relationships within the portfolio.
  • Reviewing grant proposals, performing necessary due diligence, writing grant recommendations, reviewing and analyzing grant reports, and processing grant amendments and modifications.
  • Working collaboratively with the Grants Management team.
  • Providing ongoing support to grantee partners.
  • Ensuring that the portfolio is aligned with strategic objectives and that the annual grantmaking budget for the U.S. is expended appropriately, in consultation with the U.S. Program Director.
