About The Position

The NYC Department for the Aging (NYC Aging) is dedicated to eliminating ageism and ensuring the dignity and quality of life for approximately 1.8 million older New Yorkers. NYC Aging aims to help older adults age in their homes and foster a community-care approach that reflects an age-inclusive city. The Program Officer will work within the Caregiver Support Unit, overseeing contracts for Caregiver and Social Adult Day programs. This role requires partnering with community programs, supporting their delivery of quality services to older adults and their caregivers, and demonstrating strong communication skills, attention to detail, and enthusiasm for working with this population.

Requirements

  • Must be a current City Employee.
  • Must be serving permanently in the title of Program Officer or have taken the most recent Program Officer civil service exam and be reachable for appointment from the resulting list.
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and three years of full-time satisfactory professional experience in social services, community relations, public administration or management, contract management, or social research and/or planning.
  • OR Education and/or experience that is equivalent to the above.
  • Experience as described above may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must have one year of experience as described above.
  • Must possess a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • For Assignment Level II, one additional year of the experience described in '1' above is required.

Responsibilities

  • Support community programs through negotiating and reviewing program budgets with contractors, providing oversight.
  • Provided technical assistance and conducted analysis in accordance with NYC Department for the Aging established policies, procedures, budgetary constraints, and social service priorities.
  • Conduct annual program assessments through site visits and case record reviews to evaluate compliance with program standards and quality requirements.
  • Share assessment findings with program staff and identified areas for improvement to support program effectiveness and compliance.
  • Provide follow-up support and technical assistance to strengthen program performance and ensure ongoing adherence to program standards.
  • Act as a liaison with community groups, public and private agencies, and officials to improve coordination and awareness of services and solicit community involvement in planning and approach.
  • Gather and analyze data for preparation of plans, reports and/or proposals in conjunction with staff from other Department bureaus and units, coordinates program meetings, and supports the success of the program's implementation of services.
  • Participate in special projects and during the temporary absence of the supervisor, perform the duties of that individual.
