About The Position

The Program Manager supports the Artistic Director in the planning, organization, and execution of departmental initiatives that engage the community in Motown Museum’s mission. This position works under the direction of the Artistic Director and is responsible for the administrative and operational coordination of existing programs and initiatives, including Motown MIC: The Spoken Word Competition, AMPLIFY: The Sound of Detroit Singing Competition, and other departmental projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Detail-oriented with strong follow-through and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively under the direction of the Artistic Director
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other common office and project management tools
  • Minimum of one to three years of experience in program coordination, project management, event management, arts administration, nonprofit programming, or a related field
  • Regular local travel for meetings, events, and programs.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.

  • Experience coordinating events, performances, or community-based programming preferred
  • Familiarity with arts, nonprofit, or cultural institution environments preferred
  • Experience working in a creative, arts, nonprofit, educational, or cultural institution environment preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead the administrative and operational execution of Motown MIC and AMPLIFY, including timelines, scheduling, participant communication, contracts, vendor coordination, budgets, rehearsal logistics, and day-of-event management, under the direction of the Artistic Director.
  • Provide administrative and operational support for the Hitsville NEXT Revue, Summer Camps, workshops, community events, and other departmental initiatives as assigned.
  • Create and maintain project plans, calendars, budgets, run-of-show materials, tracking documents, and other administrative resources needed to support departmental initiatives.
  • Serve as point of contact for assigned vendors, participants, community partners, and collaborating organizations, and support relationships with external partners under the direction of the Artistic Director.
  • Coordinate operational needs for performances, events, and productions, including venue logistics, transportation, staffing, equipment, and event support.
  • Provide administrative and operational support to the Artistic Director and department, including meeting coordination, preparing materials, maintaining files, tracking deadlines, and assisting with special projects as needed.
  • Support grant-related efforts by providing program information, budget input, and outcome reporting.
  • Coordinate with photographers, videographers, marketing staff, and outside vendors to support promotional materials and event coverage under the direction of the Artistic Director.
  • Represent Motown Museum and Hitsville NEXT at meetings, forums, events, and community engagements as assigned.
  • Execute priorities established by the Artistic Director. This position does not independently determine artistic direction or develop new programming initiatives unless assigned.
