The Program Manager will lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the UCSF Center for Health Equity in Surgery and Anesthesia (CHESA) Global Health Equity Fellowship. This fellowship is the largest global surgery fellowship in the world and addresses the gap in access to safe, timely, and affordable surgical care. The program equips frontline clinicians serving vulnerable communities with training, project support, mentorship, and a global network. It utilizes a virtual-first model designed for busy clinicians and is highly competitive, attracting participants from UCSF and institutions worldwide. The Program Manager will report to the CHESA Deputy Director and work closely with CHESA faculty leadership, serving as a strategic and operational partner. Responsibilities include translating program vision into actionable plans, collaborating with faculty on curriculum design, facilitating sessions, managing relationships with fellows, faculty, alumni, and global partners, and refining the program based on feedback and data. The role requires developing a strong understanding of fellows' work and facilitating connections within the CHESA network to support learning and collaboration. Familiarity with the global surgery and anesthesia landscape, or the ability to quickly gain expertise, is beneficial. The Program Manager will directly supervise an Operations Coordinator, setting priorities and providing coaching. A solid understanding of UCSF administrative and operational policies is important. The role also involves co-managing the program budget, contributing to donor engagement and reporting, and supporting alignment with CHESA's broader initiatives. Occasional travel may be required. This role is ideal for someone strategic, execution-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable working with diverse stakeholders across disciplines and cultures in dynamic environments. Experience in global health, international development, social impact, nonprofit management, public health, philanthropy, consulting, or technology is welcomed if it translates to managing complex, mission-driven programs.
