About The Position

Since 1984, Larkin Street Youth Services has helped more than 75,000 young adults in San Francisco with outreach, shelter, housing, education, employment, healthcare, and other services. Today, Larkin Street Youth Services is the largest provider of housing and services to homeless youth in the Bay Area. We serve 1,500 youth annually, operating or partnering to provide more than 500 emergency shelter, transitional, supportive, and subsidy-based housing beds at several unique sites across San Francisco. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, political science, sociology, social justice, social work, and/or related field – 2 years of experience can be considered in lieu of a degree
  • At least 2 years of management and supervisory experience preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working directly with homeless youth required
  • Experience managing Youth Leadership Program models preferred
  • Must have the ability to work with high-risk youth and with diverse staff, clients, and volunteers
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suite and Canva
  • Ability to multi-task and efficiently manage priority action items
  • Exceptional organizational skills with reliability and consistency in work performance
  • Proficiency in English, including the ability to read, write, and communicate effectively, is required only to the extent necessary to perform the essential function of the
  • Employees must be able to communicate clearly and professionally with coworkers, supervisors, clients, and external partners as required by job
  • Case Management experience with Transitional Aged Youth (TAY), aged 18 to 25 of diverse backgrounds, similar to the client base at Larkin Street Youth Services.
  • A deep understanding of adolescent and young adult development.
  • Direct experience with individuals experiencing homelessness and housing instability; experience assisting individuals access affordable housing.
  • Project and/or program management experience - overseeing a team and providing supervision and/or mentorship to colleagues.
  • A working knowledge of trauma-informed and harm reduction service models and philosophies including Housing First Mental Health First Aid, Motivational Interviewing, Positive Youth Development, Harm Reduction, and Crisis Prevention.
  • Familiarity with the City of San Francisco’s coordinated entry assessments and placement practices and procedures.
  • Advanced computer skills including word-processing, presentation making, database operations, spreadsheet management and other software systems; experience working in HMIS a plus. Ability to maintain and execute confidential information.
  • Deeply committed to integrating youth voice and best practices into all components of the program.
  • A self-starter and team player. Colleagues describe you as compassionate and a quick learner.
  • Willing to serve as an After Hours On-Call Supervisor for 7 days, every 6-8 weeks.
  • Willing to work holidays occasionally.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree is preferred, but not required.
  • Years of professional experience can be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Bilingual or multilingual (Spanish, Russian, Turkish) skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for the Community Policy Fellowship Program
  • Manage recruitment, onboarding, training, and supervision of Youth Fellows
  • Administer and coordinate youth programming, activities, and events aimed at empowering and educating youth to become community leaders
  • Oversee, support and lead youth and staff in youth advocacy work regarding internal programmatic and/or policy revisions
  • Collaborate with internal departments, including programs and administration, to elevate youth advocacy and/or to support youth challenges
  • Attend and actively contribute to agency management meetings, and represent the agency at community and partner meetings and activities
  • Complete monthly reports, including State of Union and budget, and ensure the program remains in compliance with agency and funder policies
  • Program development and evaluation related to roles
  • Oversee data collection and ensure its timely submission
  • Uphold confidentiality
  • Maintain a creative, team-building, cooperative approach to job performance and seek to bring a constructive, problem-solving orientation to all tasks
  • Maintain an awareness of the agency’s mission and work to promote the positive individual and social change goals it embodies
  • Actively strive to upgrade professional skills through engaging in appropriate professional training and experience
