About The Position

The YMCA of Northeastern Ontario is seeking a Program Manager, Health & Wellness to join their team. This Full-time position is responsible for providing operational leadership for a diverse portfolio of recreation and community programs, including Child & Youth Programs, Teen & Family Programs, Sports & Recreation, Aquatics, and funded programs such as the Youth Centre and After School Programs. The role involves planning, development, delivery, review, and continuous improvement of high-quality, safe, and inclusive programs and services to meet community needs. The Program Manager ensures program excellence, participation growth, and a positive member and participant experience through effective program management, staff leadership, and operational oversight.

Requirements

  • College diploma or University degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Business or related field
  • Minimum of three to four (3-4) years of experience and expertise in leading child, youth, family and aquatics programming in combination with experience in progressive leadership roles
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR C
  • National Lifeguard Certification (NLS) in good standing
  • Experience developing and growing programs
  • Understanding and knowledge of Aquatic standards, operations and safety regulations
  • Superior computer knowledge and ability to learn new programs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to develop, influence and coach others
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Current and satisfactory Police Record with Vulnerable Sector Check

  • Bilingualism in both official languages considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Develop, plan and implement new procedures, systems and methods to promote program growth, safety, member satisfaction and member retention through program participation and facility excellence
  • Present a safe aquatic environment by ensuring aquatic staff follow Ontario Pool Regulations
  • Be forward thinking and innovative in sports initiatives and delivery of quality programs
  • Lead program reviews, gathering input from members, staff, volunteers and other stakeholders, and provide recommendations to respond to data collected
  • Role model service standards and provide leadership through direct service delivery, with a focus on program quality and participant engagement
  • Develop and maintain effective gym, facility scheduling and equipment to best serve members of all ages; establish policies, procedures and guidelines for staff to ensure quality member experience
  • Provide leadership for program development, implementation, quality control and monitoring
  • Assist the Vice President with reporting, tracking, analyzing data for trends, and developing and implementing measurement tools and tracking systems
  • Supervise, train and support assigned staff and volunteers
  • Monitor, support and evaluate staff and volunteer performance
  • Provide strong leadership, identify development opportunities, training and performance improvement strategies for the Child/Youth, Sports and Recreation and Aquatics staff teams
  • Mentor, lead and coach direct reports, ensuring supervision, coaching & development opportunities occur for the teams
  • Provide leadership and accountability for the implementation of The Y Way within the department, ensuring exceptional member and participant experience through high standards of service, safety, inclusion, and operational excellence.
  • Foster welcoming and positive environments through high standards of facility cleanliness and maintenance, staff and volunteer development, relationship-building, and the delivery of accessible, responsive programs and services that meet the evolving needs of members and the community
  • Participate in and promote the YMCA's charitable goals and annual campaigns, working with the philanthropy department to implement and manage program sponsorship initiatives
  • Build relationships with members and guests, and promote the YMCA as a charitable organization
