About The Position

This position provides operational leadership for the Health Communications team within the THRIVE Rural Health Transformation Program, a statewide digital mental health initiative serving rural Kansas communities. Reporting to the Health Communications Team Lead, the Program Manager oversees the day-to-day execution of health communication strategies, coordinates across THRIVE integrated teams, manages project staff, and ensures deliverables are completed with fidelity and on schedule. The position may also support health communication activities across related faculty-led projects within the Department of Population Health.

Requirements

  • Four (4) years of experience in program or project management in a health communication, public health, or community health setting. Education may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience managing grant-funded projects, including familiarity with grant compliance reporting requirements such as preparing or contributing to progress reports, tracking project milestones against funded aims, and ensuring documentation meets sponsor or institutional standards.
  • Experience supervising employees.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, health communication, communications, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with digital media strategies, social media campaign management, or health communication principles.
  • Experience working with rural or underserved communities.
  • Understanding of mental health topics.
  • Proficiency with project management and productivity tools such as notion, Asana, Trello, Airtable, Google Workspace, or similar platforms; experience with lead tracking systems and workflow automation tools (e.g., Zapier).
  • Experience with newsletter development and digital communications production using platforms such as Mailchimp, Emma, or similar email marketing tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Basic AI literacy.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the Health Communications team, including timelines, task coordination, and progress tracking across all project workstreams.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Health Communications team and the other THRIVE integrated teams (Digital Mental Health, Implementation Science, and Community Health Worker teams).
  • Oversee the content production pipeline from creation through CHW review, dissemination, and data-informed adaptation across digital and community channels.
  • Coordinate community and partner engagement activities, including outreach to rural health providers, community hubs, and statewide partner networks.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to the Project Coordinator, student workers, and other assigned project staff.
  • Compile and present campaign performance summaries to support rapid, data-driven adjustments to communication strategies.
  • Contribute to grant reporting, budget tracking related to communication activities, and applications for new funding opportunities.
