About The Position

The CHSR Core Area Manager for Qualitative Research will be responsible for working with the Qualitative Research Area Director and CHSR Core Director to oversee and carry out the key functions of this highly active research core area which supports investigators in the planning and conduct of rigorous qualitative or mixed methods evaluations. Activities of the Qualitative Research Area include supporting qualitative studies from design to implementation and analysis (qualitative methods, study design, protocol development & review, training, data collection, transcription services, coding & analysis, grant & manuscript preparation, etc.), and includes both consultative services and project facilitation services like planning and carrying out structured and semi-structured interviews, focus groups, direct observation, survey data collection, and conducting analyses. Functions of the Area Manager are focused on managing these activities for both incoming and active projects, including serving as the primary liaison for investigators and collaborators, overseeing all phases of individual project operations, regulatory processes, budgeting, and data workflows, as well as overall core area management activities, like staff supervision and training, resource management and process improvement, financial reporting, and core area representation in internal and external meetings, conferences, and collaborations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the qualitative research area’s full portfolio of activities, ensuring quality standards, regulatory compliance, fiscal responsibility, and timely deliverables.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external investigators, research teams, staff, and collaborators.
  • Lead project planning activities such as cost estimation, scheduling, participant recruitment tools, and progress briefings with investigators.
  • Develop and implement tools and instruments for data collection conducted via interviews, focus groups, surveys, direct observation, and other qualitative methods.
  • Manage data workflows, including transcription, translation, de-identification, data storage, and preparation for coding and analysis.
  • Design and implement coding frameworks, conduct a range of qualitative analyses, and create data reports and related products to support scientific abstracts, manuscripts, and presentations.
  • Coordinate administrative, financial, and regulatory processes across multiple departments, including budgeting, billing, and project documentation.
  • Oversee hiring, training, supervision, and professional development of staff.
  • Represent the research core in institutional meetings, conferences, symposia, and collaborative initiatives; support grant and proposal development.
  • Create educational, operational, and patient-facing materials; contribute to process improvement and methodological training across the institution.
