Program Leaders work part-time in person at school and district sites throughout California. They work with an assigned group of students, with student-to-staff ratios contingent on CDC guidelines, and serve as positive adult role models, coaches, and mentors. The role requires a genuine interest in students’ growth and development and in providing a safe, nurturing environment. Leaders use leadership, communication, and patience to establish authority and build connections that support students’ stability and success. In an in-person classroom setting, Program Leaders provide homework assistance, academic enrichment, and physical activity using program-provided curriculum and materials. They lead groups of 20–25 students, maintain behavior and safety standards, foster belonging, support positive behavior, and take disciplinary measures when appropriate. They also help prepare and serve snacks, maintain the site, monitor student attendance and activity sign-ins and sign-outs, identify student needs, communicate with relevant school and program contacts and parents, and participate in staff development.
