About The Position

Grand Canyon University (GCU) partners with nonprofit organizations that improve the quality of life for community residents. GCU has a partnership with Future for Kids, an organization that provides mentor-driven out-of-school programs and camps focused on academics, athletics, and ethics for youth facing adversity. This position is a Federal Work-Study (FWS) Community Service Learning Program (CSLP) role, requiring students to have their FAFSA completed and be awarded FWS. The CSLP student worker's schedule is flexible and dependent on Future for Kids' operational hours, with a maximum of 20 hours per week during the academic year. The services provided are designed to improve the quality of life for community residents, particularly low-income individuals, and are open and accessible to non-GCU community members.

Requirements

Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a bachelor’s program or master’s program.
Maintain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.
Have passion and willingness to help others succeed.
Possess strong ethics, integrity, and sense of responsibility.
Must have reliable transportation.
Must obtain an Arizona level one fingerprint clearance card.

Nice To Haves

Previous Mentoring experience.
Ability to speak a second language.

Responsibilities

Assist staff with programming, including games, behavior management, and mentor support.
Take the lead in programming as needed.
Build a strong rapport with participating youths and mentors.
Assist with set-up and clean-up at each program.
Assist with tabling and recruitment as needed.
Attend Monday meetings from 11 am – 1 pm.
Visit at least two different site locations on two of the four program days each week.
Other duties as assigned.
