About The Position

This is a seasonal role for the FALL/Shoulder Season at Camp Shady Brook in Deckers, CO. The Program Instructor will provide leadership and guidance to campers in all program areas, support the development of camp games and themed skits/events, and be responsible for running activities. They will also create facility usage schedules, participate in organizing or leading camp activities, and provide administrative office support as needed. The role involves participating in and actively engaging in instructor and staff training, assuming responsibility for the health and welfare of campers and staff, and acting as a positive role model by demonstrating the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. The instructor will observe camper and staff behavior, enforce safety regulations, apply behavior management techniques, and ensure proper care and storage of equipment. They will also be responsible for the setup and cleanup of all programs and events. Note that duties may be reassigned as required.

Requirements

At least 21 years of age.
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Previous camp leadership.
Able to coordinate and supervise summer staff.
Must possess a cooperative spirit and be committed to character development by promoting and demonstrating caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility to campers, staff, and program participants.
Must demonstrate leadership qualities-allowing for the development of personal and professional interpersonal relationships with staff, campers, parents, and others.
Must be committed to the mission of YMCA Camp Shady Brook and be an advocate and role model for staff and campers alike.
Previous experience and/or training in youth camping.
Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certifications.

Responsibilities

Provide leadership and guidance to campers in all program areas.
Support in developing all camp games and themed skits /events.
Run activities in program areas.
Create facility usage schedules (shower, trading post, trail rides, etc.).
Provide leadership and support as directed by organizing, or leading camp activities or by providing administrative office support as needed.
Participate in Instructor training prior to staff training.
Actively participate in staff training and staff meetings.
Assume responsibility for the health/welfare of campers and staff entrusted to his/her charge.
Act as a positive role model for campers and other staff, demonstrating the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in the performance of job duties.
Observe camper and staff behavior and assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
Demonstrate proper care and storage of all equipment and supplies.
Provide and ensure proper set up and cleanup of all programs and events.
