About The Position

The Program Engagement Lead: Special Programs is responsible for the health, teacher success, and student engagement of assigned programs. This leadership role combines data analysis, people management, and program execution. As part of the Student Engagement team, the role primarily focuses on supporting the Teacher team, working closely with the Director of the Teacher team to represent the teacher experience. The position collaborates with Program Administrators to manage daily operations and program growth, especially in Special Programs which may have unique structures and evolving systems. The role involves monitoring student engagement, supporting teachers, and managing program risks, deadlines, and state requirements. Depending on program size, direct management of teachers or lead teachers may be involved, with an emphasis on building sustainable team structures and providing hands-on support and coaching in growing programs. The core function is to ensure the right systems, communication, and support are in place for successful program growth. This role is ideal for individuals energized by building and supporting evolving programs, coaching teachers through change, anticipating future needs, and directly impacting student and family experiences.

Requirements

  • A program driver who takes end-to-end accountability for the health, compliance, and outcomes of their assigned program, proactively identifying risks, gaps, and opportunities in fast-moving or evolving environments.
  • A flexible, solutions-oriented leader who is energized by building and improving systems, adapting to change, and helping growing programs operate more effectively over time.
  • A people developer who supports teachers and lead teachers with a coaching mindset, balancing hands-on support with opportunities for others to grow in confidence and ownership.
  • A skilled communicator who delivers compelling, well-organized messages to diverse audiences (teachers, lead teachers, leadership, Program Administrators, cross-functional partners) with clarity, tact, and autonomy.
  • A relationship builder who uses diplomacy and tact to navigate high-stakes conversations and build trust across teams and functions.
  • A mission-driven leader who sees program compliance, operational excellence, and teacher development not as administrative tasks but as direct investments in the students and families OpenEd serves.
  • Energized by being the person who makes things happen, and is the kind of person others can count on to follow through.
  • Comfortable working in environments where systems, processes, and needs may continue to evolve over time.
  • Finds meaning in developing people, not just managing tasks, and measures success by how confidently and independently the people around them can operate.
  • Spots a problem before anyone else does, and already has a recommendation ready when raising it.
  • Enjoys bringing forward ideas and process improvements while still working collaboratively within established program direction and leadership priorities.
  • Thrives in an environment where details matter, deadlines are real, and flexibility is sometimes required as priorities shift.
  • Wants to be a valued member of a team with a shared mission, and finds satisfaction in knowing that the programs they support are serving students well.
  • Believes that developing the people around them is one of the most important things a leader can do.
