About The Position

Under the direction of the Regional Program Director of Youth Development, the Program Director is responsible for developing and administering school age and family programs. This includes, but is not limited to the Before & After School Program, special events, and development of other community-based programs for school age participants for the Center in accordance with Association goals, objectives, and policies. The Program Director must understand their role in helping build relationships and continue program development on the west side of Indianapolis.

Requirements

  • A degree in child development, early childhood, recreation, elementary education/related field, or its equivalent in related experience.
  • A minimum 2-3 years previous professional experience, working with school age children specifically, in YMCA or similar agency is vital to the success of this position.
  • Basic programming skills with special emphasis on school age youth and family activities.
  • The ability to relate to all age groups is essential.
  • Experience with volunteers, fiscal management, and program development is also important.
  • The need exists to be current with community trends.
  • A high degree of organizational ability is needed.
  • Strong skills are necessary in supervision, management, income production, expense control, public relations, promotion, public speaking, communication skills, fund-raising, grant writing and record-keeping.

Responsibilities

  • Develops administers and controls the designated budgets, including meeting income targets and expense control, in consultation with the Regional Director.
  • Evaluates programs and recommend changes based on compatibility with the Center and Association goals.
  • Is responsible for the development of new program thrusts.
  • Involved with other community groups in identifying and responding to community needs and issues.
  • Ability to effectively present information (e.g. train others) and respond to questions from managers, customers, vendors and the general public.
  • Ability to use sound judgment and make decisions using YMCA policies and procedures as a guide.
  • Ability to communicate with parents and youth participants effectively.
  • Ability to observe and promote safety and security procedures.
  • Adequate planning and organization is evident in program areas, meeting of deadlines, sufficient promotion, and the attainment of agreed upon goals and objectives.
  • Sound fiscal management as evidenced by adequate income production and expense control, as budgeted and adjusted during fiscal year.
  • Evidence of creativity in problem solving through good planning and ability to adjust program to provide optimum quality.
  • On-site and off-site facilities and grounds used are safe, clean, and well maintained as appropriate for their designed use.
  • Maximum enrollments in programs and steady increases in participation, which may include youth memberships.
