About The Position

The Program Director for Serenity, a DHS-funded 52-bed transitional shelter serving single adult men, is responsible for the overall management and oversight of shelter operations, ensuring quality service delivery, program compliance, and the effective day-to-day functioning of the facility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or a related field, with a Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five years’ management experience, including proven supervisory and staff development skills.
  • Proven ability to lead in residential or shelter-based environments.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer literacy, particularly with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Familiarity with DSS, DHS, OTDA, and best practices in supportive housing and homelessness services.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Managing the day-to-day programmatic operation of the facility.
  • Providing administrative and case management support to the assistant director and social service team to ensure sound casework practice, contractual compliance with program goals and objectives, and adherence to DHS and HELP policies and procedures.
  • Recruiting, orienting, managing, and evaluating all program and operations staff, providing appropriate training and supervision to ensure that all clients are provided with quality services at all times.
  • Developing and nurturing an environment that fosters staff satisfaction and retention.
  • Assessing effectiveness of service delivery and identifying gaps in service.
  • Support efforts to maintain compliance with agency policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Assist with ensuring the facility remains safe, clean, and well-maintained by coordinating with maintenance and security staff as needed.
  • Help track expenses, process purchases, and support budget-related activities in accordance with agency guidelines.
  • Provide on-call support for emergencies outside of regular business hours.
  • Assist with building and maintaining relationships with community partners and external resources that support program operations and participant needs.
  • Coordinate with community organizations and service providers to support program activities and referrals.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records, reports, and documentation in agency systems.
  • Provide support during emergencies and assist with after-hours coverage when needed.
