The Dementia Program Director will be responsible for planning and coordinating a therapeutic program schedule that meets the spiritual, social, emotional, physical, and intellectual needs of the resident. This role involves assessing resident characteristics, planning program content, monitoring daily unit functioning, and fostering teamwork. The Director will also develop cooperative relationships with other department directors, assess staff educational needs regarding dementia-specific knowledge, and provide program continuation for new staff. Additionally, the role includes marketing the unit through community involvement, managing communications for families, participating in reviews of social work and recreation services, serving as a role model for staff, and ensuring residents are treated with respect and dignity. The position also involves providing orientation and in-service training, reporting any suspected resident abuse, performing pre-admission assessments, assisting with resident admissions and transitions, maintaining weekly contact with new residents and their families, and staying informed about current research, programs, and community resources to benefit residents and families.
