About The Position

Sonoma County Family YMCA is seeking a Program Director for Child Care & Camp. This mission-driven, full-time, exempt leadership role involves leading the development and delivery of high-quality childcare programs and a vibrant, year-round camp experience. The director will guide, support, and inspire teams, ensuring programs are nurturing, enriching, and aligned with YMCA values. The role requires big-picture thinking, creativity, and a heart for working with children, families, and staff. Flexibility is key, with a schedule that may include early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends. The work directly supports the physical, mental, social, and emotional development of participants and staff. Strong communication, sound judgment, and confident decision-making are essential.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 2+ years of supervisory experience in youth programs, childcare, camp, or related fields.
  • Strong communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt to variable hours including mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days).
  • DOJ & FBI fingerprint clearance required which includes sex offender screening.
  • Proficient with Windows-based programs and technology systems.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate program staff and volunteers.
  • Build high-performing teams through coaching, motivation, and accountability.
  • Serve as part of the YMCA Management Team and Manager on Duty as assigned.
  • Lead development, delivery, and evaluation of childcare and camp programs.
  • Maintain compliance with YMCA policies, licensing standards, and safety requirements.
  • Partner with schools, community agencies, and internal departments to support program success.
  • Conduct routine site visits to ensure program quality, cleanliness, and safety.
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial controls, and program outcomes.
  • Analyze data, systems, and processes to identify opportunities for growth and retention.
  • Support fundraising initiatives including the Annual Giving Campaign.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Coordinate registration, fee schedules, handbooks, and participant communications.
  • Respond effectively to inquiries, concerns, and emergency situations.
