About The Position

This Position is temporary and limited to 900 hours. The Extra Help Program Coordinator (Accessibility Specialist) independently manages, reviews, and coordinates the digital accessibility program and compliance frameworks within the UIC College of Applied Health Sciences. This role blends advanced technical testing and asset evaluation across college platforms, along with training program delivery and consultative support, to ensure college-wide adherence to ADA and WCAG standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • A total of one (1) year (12 months) in education, training and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position.
  • Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Formulate and implement standard operating procedures, workflows, and evaluation metrics for college-wide digital accessibility tracking and program coordination.
  • Participate in long-range departmental planning with the Director to align policy initiatives and build sustainable institutional capacity for an inclusive digital environment.
  • Manage and update the college's digital accessibility resource portal, ensuring all shared guidelines, tools, policy resources, and documentation reflect current legal and technical standards.
  • Lead independent automated and manual compliance audits of college RED WordPress websites and digital assets.
  • Utilize specialized automated testing suites and evaluation software (including Axe Monitor and Adobe Acrobat Pro) to systematically monitor, log, and analyze technical compliance metrics.
  • Identify technical digital barriers, document evaluation findings, and deliver clear, actionable remediation plans to campus stakeholders to eliminate critical compliance issues.
  • Remediate and audit specialized academic and administrative document types to ensure absolute compatibility with screen readers and assistive technology.
  • Design, develop, and deliver customized accessibility training sessions and hands-on educational workshops tailored to faculty and staff project workflows.
  • Create reusable instructional resource toolkits, tip sheets, and self-testing modules to support training efforts and enable departments to actively improve their own content.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and market campus-wide accessibility events, workshops, and promotional communications across internal college channels to drive community engagement and advocacy.
  • Assemble programmatic data, review compliance metrics, and prepare detailed administrative management reports for the Director and senior leadership.
  • Act as the primary operational point of contact and representative on cross-functional university committees addressing digital inclusion infrastructure and campus-wide compliance expectations.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
