About The Position

This position serves as the statewide educator apprenticeship coordinator. This position serves as the subject matter expert, division lead, and primary point of contact for Universities, School Districts, Apprentices, and Mentor/Journey workers for the Department of Education and Early Development educator apprenticeship program. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring program compliance while supporting participants in understanding and meeting all program requirements. The educator apprenticeship program supports districts in growing skilled educators from existing local workforce to meet teacher vacancy and turnover needs across the state, and the Apprenticeship Coordinator is a key resource in supporting districts in meeting apprenticeship goals. The Division of Innovation and Education Excellence is seeking a Program Coordinator 2 to join the Teacher Certification team to lead the work of implementing Alaska's statewide educator apprenticeship program and to support approved districts and universities in meeting state and federal apprenticeship requirements while providing high-quality educator preparation programming to apprentices.

Requirements

  • Training from an accredited college or university in any field and/or progressively responsible professional experience developing, planning, coordinating, and implementing a program, project, business, organization, or major components of a program, including having administrative authority over the program/project funding, staff, and/or overall operations.
  • Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
  • Compliance: Knowledge of procedures for assessing, evaluating, and monitoring programs or projects for compliance with Federal laws, regulations, and guidance.
  • Decision Making: Makes sound, well-informed, and objective decisions; perceives the impact and implications of decisions; commits to action, even in uncertain situations, to accomplish organizational goals; causes change.
  • Planning and Evaluating: Organizes work, sets priorities, and determines resource requirements; determines short- or long-term goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinates with other organizations or parts of the organization to accomplish goals; monitors progress and evaluates outcomes.

  • K-12 Public Education: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, methods, and practices of planning, teaching, and evaluating an assigned K-12 public education content area. Integrates best practices with subject matter expertise to develop resources, inform policy implementation, provide technical assistance, and support continuous improvement. Provides guidance and consultation to school districts and/or stakeholders while advancing statewide educational priorities.

Responsibilities
