About The Position

This is a promotional opportunity for current LA Department of Corrections employees who have permanent status and are ready to advance in their career. The Louisiana State Penitentiary is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Program Consultant – Social Services within the institution's Mental Health Department. This position plays a vital role in supporting the delivery of mental health services by coordinating programs, assisting with case management activities, and ensuring continuity of care within a correctional environment. The Program Consultant – Social Services will be responsible for coordinating mental health program activities, maintaining case records and documentation, assisting with treatment planning and referrals, preparing reports, monitoring program compliance, and collaborating with mental health professionals, institutional staff, and outside agencies to ensure effective service delivery. This position requires strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a structured and secure environment while supporting the Mental Health Department's mission of providing quality behavioral health services to the offender population.

Requirements

  • Six years of experience in administrative services, public health, social services, or health services; OR Six years of full-time experience in any field plus three years of experience in administrative services, public health, social services, or health services; OR A bachelor’s degree plus three years of experience in administrative services, public health, social services, or health services; OR An advanced degree in a social science field, public health, counseling, social work, rehabilitation services, business, public, or health administration, or Juris Doctorate plus two years of experience in administrative services, public health, social services, or health services.
  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Responsibilities

  • Provides an advanced level of supervision over support services to include complete oversight of all groups and those whom are conducting such services.
  • Plans and oversees mental health groups to ensure documentation is made in a timely manner.
  • Provides oversight of the out camp providers of group treatment to ensure accuracy.
  • Collaborate with Security to elicit any special considerations and or circumstances which might impact the participation for the mental health group participants.
  • Ensures backlog lists are being monitored and updated to allow accessibility to group treatment.
