About The Position

Bow Valley College is seeking a Program Chair for the Interdisciplinary Therapy Assistant Program. This role provides academic and operational leadership to ensure program excellence, learner success, and faculty engagement. The Program Chair is responsible for developing, planning, implementing, and administering program goals in alignment with the college's strategic plan and commitment to learner-centered education. This position involves collaboration with faculty, internal departments, and external stakeholders to maintain high-quality curriculum delivery, effective program operations, and positive learner experiences. The role also focuses on curriculum development, faculty mentorship, student support, applied research, and stakeholder engagement, fostering an inclusive and innovative learning environment. This position is ideal for a collaborative leader passionate about academic excellence, curriculum innovation, faculty support, and advancing health education.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Registered Physiotherapist with the Alberta College of Physiotherapy or Registered Occupational Therapist with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a post-secondary environment
  • Teaching experience
  • Preferably academic program leadership experience
  • Equivalent combinations of directly related education and experience may be considered
  • Strong leadership, mentorship, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to foster a respectful, innovative, and team-oriented environment
  • Strong understanding of curriculum development, outcomes-based education, learner retention and success strategies, and post-secondary teaching and learning practices
  • Ability to balance operational leadership with academic excellence
  • Effective communicator with strong organizational, conflict resolution, and time management skills
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams, internal departments, industry partners, and external stakeholders
  • Professionalism, adaptability, and commitment to innovation and learner-centered education

  • Must be current full-time faculty

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational and academic leadership to faculty, staff, and learners within the Interdisciplinary Therapy Assistant program, fostering a collaborative and positive team environment.
  • Chair program and team meetings, support faculty orientation and onboarding, contribute to recruitment and selection activities, and address operational priorities.
  • Promote effective collaboration among faculty, Program Chairs, Associate Deans, and internal departments to ensure alignment and strong program delivery.
  • Contribute to the ongoing maintenance, development, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the program, including curriculum reviews, accreditation processes, and program evaluations.
  • Develop timetables and teaching assignments, support course coverage planning, monitor program quality and retention factors, and promote instructional best practices.
  • Contribute to academic planning initiatives, curriculum approvals, pathway development, and inter-professional education opportunities.
  • Support learner engagement, achievement, and success by maintaining a strong presence and fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Provide guidance and support to learners, collaborate to address learner concerns and appeals, and promote awareness of available support services.
  • Support learner onboarding, transfer credit and PLAR processes, academic integrity initiatives, learner recognition activities, and professional development opportunities.
  • Promote excellence in curriculum design, delivery, and assessment, ensuring alignment with best practices and accreditation requirements.
  • Collaborate with faculty, curriculum committees, subject matter experts, and instructional design partners to support curriculum development and review course offerings.
  • Monitor industry and sector trends to identify opportunities for curriculum enhancement and support the development of transfer pathways.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including industry partners, professional associations, and community organizations.
  • Represent the School and College at meetings, events, committees, and advisory groups.
  • Contribute to marketing, recruitment, and community engagement activities.
  • Support applied research initiatives and contribute to building research capacity within the school.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, model lifelong learning, and actively participate in professional development activities.
  • May include teaching assigned courses, developing instructional materials, evaluating learner performance, and maintaining official academic records.
