About The Position

George Fox University is seeking a collaborative and mission-driven leader to serve as Department Chair of the Kinesiology Program within the Division of Health and Behavioral Sciences starting August 1st, 2026. As part of the College of Allied Health Sciences, the Department Chair will work closely with faculty in Kinesiology, Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), and Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) programs to support interdisciplinary collaboration, student success, and program excellence. The Department Chair reports directly to the Associate Dean of the Division of Health and Behavioral Sciences and partners with University leadership to ensure the mission, goals, and strategic direction of the Kinesiology Program align with the broader mission of the University. The successful candidate will demonstrate leadership marked by character, competency, calling, and collaboration. Requirements

  • A Doctoral Degree.
  • A minimum of four years of experience in a full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities.
  • Past leadership experience in Christian Higher Education within the area of Kinesiology.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor faculty and students in the integration of faith and the health sciences, fostering a culture of spiritual formation within the department.
  • A commitment to the University's Theology of Racial and Ethnic Diversity.
  • A desire to work with a diverse community of students and employees who represent various cultures, backgrounds, abilities, ethnicities, political views, and expressions of Christian faith.
  • A personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a church.

Responsibilities

  • Providing leadership, management, and administration for the Kinesiology Program, including fostering effective collaboration among faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Leading strategic planning, program development, and continuous improvement for the Kinesiology major and its concentrations in Exercise Science, Physical Activity and Human Performance, and Health Care Administration.
  • Overseeing curriculum design, assessment, and program evaluation to ensure academic quality, disciplinary breadth, and alignment with accreditation and institutional standards.
  • Monitoring student persistence and retention data and collaborating with the Associate Dean and faculty to implement strategies that support student success across all concentrations.
  • Managing program budgets, resource allocation, and operational planning in support of departmental priorities and growth.
  • Supporting the recruitment, selection, mentoring, and professional development of faculty and staff.
  • Teaching within the area of expertise while maintaining excellence in instruction and student engagement.
  • Advising and mentoring undergraduate students, including supporting pathways into DPT, OTD, and other graduate health programs through intentional vertical integration.
  • Contributing to the scholarship agenda of the Kinesiology Program through research, collaboration, and student engagement in scholarly activity.
  • Engaging in service to the Kinesiology Program, University community, and interprofessional initiatives through committee participation and collaborative activities.
  • Supporting student recruitment and outreach efforts through participation in Bruin Preview, Scholarship Summit, and related events.
  • Developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with healthcare professionals, community partners, and campus educators to advance program goals and opportunities for students.
  • Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated experience working cross culturally with respect, appreciation and humility.
  • Other duties as assigned.
