Program Associate - Cotton Verification Coordinator

About The Position

The position serves as Coordinator for the Arkansas Cotton Research Verification Program, an integrated Extension education program that transfers research technology to farms. The program is collaborative, involving cotton growers, county Extension agents, and the coordinator, and is directed by an advisory committee of Extension faculty and researchers with cotton responsibilities. The coordinator plans and conducts Cotton Verification Programs in cooperation with county Extension agents, producers, faculty, and Cotton Incorporated. The role also coordinates on-farm trials to verify research-based recommendations, supports evaluation and reporting of program results, helps secure and manage funding, and develops and delivers Extension education materials and updates.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in agriculture or a related area with three years of relevant professional experience, or a related master’s degree.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, data management, and email programs.
High technical competence in the area of responsibility.
Ability to develop and deliver quality presentations.
Ability to exercise initiative, make sound judgments, and work without close supervision.
Ability to relate and respond to the needs of supervisors, subordinates, and clientele.
Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree in crop science, soil science, pest management, or a closely related field.
Extension experience and/or experience establishing and evaluating demonstrations.

Responsibilities

Plan and conduct Cotton Verification Programs in accordance with program goals and objectives, in cooperation with county Extension agents, producers, faculty, and Cotton Incorporated.
Coordinate interdisciplinary planning with soybean, rice, corn, and grain sorghum verification program coordinators.
Meet with the advisory committee to plan future projects for the program.
Train county agents, consultants, and producers in best management practices for weed and insect management and irrigation efficiency, and provide updates and training on precision agriculture and new technologies.
Coordinate and conduct on-farm field trials to verify the utility of research-based recommendations, optimize profit potential, identify areas needing further research, refine recommendations, and increase county agents’ crop expertise.
Evaluate the program using advisory committee members, participants, and other interested parties, including through meetings, interviews, producer surveys, program data, and state agricultural statistics.
Assist in securing and managing funds and report findings to the advisory committee, Cotton Incorporated State Funding Committee, and other interested parties.
Assist with developing Extension publications, educational materials, print media, and teaching aids.
Use the website and weekly newsletters to provide updates on crop conditions and current integrated pest management practices.
Collaborate with other verification coordinators on assigned duties.
