About The Position

Do you enjoy creating positive experiences, supporting community programs, and helping people connect through recreation? Join our Recreation team as a Program Aide and make a meaningful impact! Under supervision, assists with the organization, implementation, and supervision of special programs; provides clerical support, assists with the operation of facilities, and provides service to the public. Exercises no supervision. Distinguishing Characteristics: Program Aid I This is the entry level in the class series. Positions at this level usually perform most of the duties required of the positions at the II level but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise. Program Aid II This is the full journey level in the class series. Positions at this level are distinguished from the I level by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently and exercising judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Positions in this class series are flexibly staffed and positions at the II level are normally filled by advancement from the I level requiring two years of experience, successful performance, management recommendation, and budget availability. When filled from the outside, the employee is required to have prior related experience which allows the employee to meet the qualification standards for the II level.

Requirements

  • Program Aide I: A minimum of one year (or 1,000 hours) of paid or volunteer experience working with the public.
  • Program Aide II: Two years of experience coordinating recreational program, activities, and/or special events.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license is required at time of hire
  • Possession of valid First Aid and CPR certificates at time of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the coordination of recreational programs and activities and/or special events is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the development and implementation of programs by conducting research, planning, and scheduling activities, and prepares promotional materials
  • Coordinates set-up, take down and maintains facilities
  • Maintains accurate records and prepares various reports
  • Provides customer service and supervises program activities and participants
  • Registers participants, collects fees, prepares deposits
  • Coordinates, schedules, and oversees a wide variety of recreation and community service programs, rentals, activities, and events
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned
