About The Position

The Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI) at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking to recruit faculty for tenure-track and tenured positions. The focus is on expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) applied to biomedical informatics. DBMI has a strong emphasis on developing and applying AI/ML methods in areas such as clinical informatics, translational bioinformatics, clinical research informatics, and public health informatics. The university collaborates with Carnegie-Mellon University, fostering a rich environment for AI/ML and healthcare research. The ideal candidate will be a recognized scholar at the intersection of AI/ML and biomedical informatics, ideally with existing federally funded research projects. The role involves leading an independently funded research program, utilizing DBMI's infrastructure, and contributing to instruction and mentoring within the NLM-funded Biomedical Informatics Training Program. Clinically trained faculty have opportunities for clinical practice and participation in the Clinical Informatics Subspecialty Fellowship Program, as well as avenues for commercialization and entrepreneurship.

Requirements

• Doctoral degree (PhD) in biomedical informatics, health informatics, bioinformatics, computer science, statistics, or information sciences, OR a professional health degree (MD, RN, PharmD) with informatics training.
• For Assistant Professor: Demonstrated teaching ability, experience in advanced study and research, or professional experience enabling academic contribution; promise of originality and excellence in scholarship; demonstrated ability in guiding and counseling students.
• For Associate Professor: 5+ years of experience, substantial experience in teaching and research, and eminence in a scholarly or professional field.
• For Professor: 10+ years of experience, authoritative knowledge and reputation in a recognized field of learning, effective teaching skills, and superior stature in their field through research, scholarship, and professional leadership.
