About The Position

Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is seeking a Professor for its Department of Dermatology, located in Portland, Oregon. The department is committed to providing innovative dermatologic care for a wide range of skin, hair, nail, and mucous membrane disorders. This role involves teaching medical students, trainees, and support staff through lectures and practical application, mentoring, and delegating responsibilities. The position also requires maintaining a program of scholarly research aimed at advancing the understanding and treatment of diseases, with potential for research focused on educational foundations in dermatology. Administrative duties, as assigned by the Chair, include resident selection and participation in departmental committees. The role emphasizes outstanding professional performance in research, clinical care, or administration, adhering to the OHSU Code of Conduct and treating all individuals with dignity and respect.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) Degree.
  • Board certification/eligibility in Dermatology.
  • Experience in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with cutaneous diseases.
  • Proven experience in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of nail disorders.
  • Demonstrated competence in teaching.
  • Demonstrated competence in research, teaching, patient care, administration, or combinations of these activities (depending on qualifications).
  • Potential for academic accomplishment should be evident.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching trainees, medical students, and support staff through assigned lectures and practical application.
  • Mentoring trainees and guiding learning through delegating graduated and focused levels of responsibility.
  • Establishing and maintaining a program of scholarly research activity directed toward improving understanding of the causes, detection, and treatment of diseases.
  • Developing and directing scholarly research activities focused toward improving the educational foundation within dermatology (optional).
  • Contributing to the administration of the department, including resident selection and participation in committees and councils.
  • Providing an outstanding level of professional performance (e.g., quality of investigation for research faculty; quality of clinical care for clinical faculty; quality of administrative function in education office).
  • Treating all patients, research subjects, trainees, and co-workers with dignity and respect.
  • Engaging in public service through consultative activities with OHSU and non-University groups as approved by the Chair (optional).
  • Participating in additional departmental or hospital administration as approved by the Chair (optional).
