About The Position

The Department of Medicine and Section of Palliative Care in the Division of General Internal Medicine is seeking a full-time physician (MD/DO), PhD scientist or PharmD in a relevant field with a research focus on palliative care and serious illness at the levels of Assistant Professor, appointment or tenure stream, Associate Professor, appointment or tenure stream and Professor, appointment stream or tenured depending on qualifications and career track to serve as the Associate Chief of Research (ACR) and Director of the Palliative Research Center (PaRC). In this role, the ACR will collaborate closely with the Section Faculty and report directly to the Section Chief. The Section of Palliative Care is a multidisciplinary team committed to improving quality of life for patients and families through delivery of quality palliative care, education of palliative care skills and advancement in palliative care innovation. We work with patients at academic hospitals and at outpatient clinics throughout the region. Our fellowship program is nationally recognized and comprised of four fellowship tracks to accommodate diverse career goals. The Palliative Research Center (PaRC) consists of faculty from across the Schools of Health Sciences, including researchers from palliative care and many medical subdisciplines, nursing, and public health. PaRC supports researchers throughout their careers and encourages collaboration between faculty members across disciplines.

Requirements

Applicants for Assistant Professor, appointment or tenure stream, should have three or more years of experience in the field of clinical and/or health services research; have achieved or established the ability to attain external research funding; have dispersed results through peer-reviewed publications and other scientific forums; have noteworthy teaching experience; and established the capability for continued career development, promotion, and tenure.
Applicants for Associate Professor, appointment or tenure stream, should have five or more years of experience in the field of clinical and/or health services research; have independent, external research funding and an extensive record of peer-reviewed publications; have substantial teaching experience; and demonstrate the ability for continued, impactful, independent scholarly contributions and leadership.
Applicants for Professor, appointment stream or tenured, will have served five to seven years as Associate Professor. The rank of professor regards the individual accomplishments of respected knowledge and status in a distinguished ﬁeld of learning and the achievement of successful teaching knowledge and practices. The professor should have obtained enhanced stature in their ﬁeld through contributions of scholarship, professional practice, and leadership in professional and learning organizations.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement the strategic research mission of the Section and the Palliative Research Center (PaRC).
Recruit junior and mid-level investigators and provide mentorship for palliative care investigators.
Promote synergy and partnerships across disciplines and University departments, schools and institutes.
Nurture collaborative relationships with foundations and industries and advance federal research projects (NIH, PCORI).
