About The Position

The Division of Data Science and Society (DSS) at UNC-Chapel Hill’s School of Data and Information Sciences (SDIS) is seeking to hire tenure-track faculty at the open rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. This initiative aims to bolster research and innovation in the dynamic field of data science. The division is interested in candidates who can contribute to areas such as data science foundations, the societal impact of data science, and applications across various scientific disciplines including medical, social, physical, biological, and environmental sciences. The DSS research pillars include: Data (techniques for collection, storage, dissemination, and insight generation), Algorithms and Models (mathematical, computational, and statistical tools for data analysis and utilization), Applications (innovative uses of data and models for interdisciplinary knowledge advancement and addressing social issues), and Social Impact (examining ethical questions and unintended consequences of data usage). UNC-Chapel Hill promotes an interdisciplinary approach to data science, encouraging collaboration to translate research into societal benefits. Requirements

Responsibilities

• Develop and teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Supervise students in their academic and research endeavors.
• Conduct research in data science foundations, societal impact of data science, and applications in various scientific fields.
• Collaborate with faculty, students, and external partners on interdisciplinary research projects.
• Secure external funding to support research projects.
