About The Position

The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Penn State College of Medicine (COM) and Penn State Health (PSH) is recruiting for an open position for a Ph.D. scientist at the level of professor with a strong research focus. This position is tenure eligible based on candidate qualifications and accomplishments. The faculty member will be expected to direct a highly competitive and innovative research program that focuses broadly on addressing receptor tyrosine kinase signaling and its role in health and disease. The responsibilities will include coordinating translational research initiatives across the college and the department, via a role as a faculty member in Radiation Oncology, Molecular and Precision Medicine (secondary) and as the Associate Director of CRTEC. There is also an expectation of involvement in mentoring graduate students, postdoctoral and medical students, teaching, and outreach. Program growth and recruitment around collaborations is an important priority for the COM, and the successful candidate is expected to actively identify opportunities for collaborative research, bringing together departmental faculty with colleagues from other programs/academic units and/or institutions.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
  • Academic record meriting appointment at the rank of Professor at Penn State University College of Medicine.
  • Track record of successfully building an innovative basic science research program.
  • Demonstrated ability to secure extramural support.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with physicians and scientists.
  • PA State Police Criminal Background Check.
  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form.
  • Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.

Responsibilities

  • Direct a highly competitive and innovative research program that focuses broadly on addressing receptor tyrosine kinase signaling and its role in health and disease.
  • Coordinate translational research initiatives across the college and the department.
  • Serve as a faculty member in Radiation Oncology and Molecular and Precision Medicine (secondary).
  • Serve as the Associate Director of CRTEC.
  • Mentor graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and medical students.
  • Engage in teaching and outreach activities.
  • Actively identify opportunities for collaborative research, bringing together departmental faculty with colleagues from other programs/academic units and/or institutions.
